Fernhurst, Lynchmere and Camelsdale Churches
Welcome
Welcome to St. Margaret's Fernhurst and St. Peter's Lynchmere; the United Benefice of Fernhurst, Lynchmere and Camelsdale.
We are village-based welcoming Anglican Churches which seek to be active, authentic and accessible in the 21st century. Our Mission Statement is 'to worship God, help one another grow in Christ and share his love throughout our communities.'
Our lives and our commitment to serving the communities in which we live are therefore informed by our worship, which varies from said Book of Common Prayer services to informal services of prayer, praise and healing.
This website will give you an idea of what our United Benefice is all about, in all our variety; but there's no substitute for the personal encounter. As Christ said to some people who wanted to know more about him, "Come and see."
Come and join us on the journey...
Bob Pennington
The church gives thanks for the life of its Deputy Church Warden, Bob Pennington following his death on the 8 October 2025.
Bob was a loyal and much-loved supporter of St. Margaret's Fernhurst, not only worshipping here with his wife Anne, but also devoting many hours to make the church a safe, attractive and welcoming place for others to be.
As well as overseeing and undertaking the many maintenance tasks an ancient building and churchyard generates, Bob also contributed greatly to the thing that really marks us out as a good church - its community. A steady presence offering a warm welcome into our Sunday services, Bob was actively involved in the social life of both church and village, not least in his leading role as tea and coffee brewer extraordinaire at the men's breakfast for almost 20 years! Bob also organised the local poppy appeal for the Royal British Legion, kept our church flags flying and was always around to lend a hand whenever he was needed, a real-life saint.
PCC member Mick Cameron said of Bob, "He was a true gentleman, the kind of person that we should all be like". There can be no bigger compliment than that and we feel very blessed to have had the pleasure of his presence in our community.
Our prayers for his wife Anne, daughters Louise and Katy and the wider family continue.
May Bob rest in peace and rise in glory.
